Bishop Auckland RUFC’s U16 Girls marked an important moment this season as the group held its first ever end-of-season presentation since the girls section was launched last year.
It was a proud chance to reflect on a season that has been about far more than results alone. Through the cluster with Durham City, the girls were able to come together, keep playing, and continue their rugby at an age where that opportunity really matters.
The group played three games this season, but the real achievement has been in building something positive. This year has been about commitment, adaptability and teamwork. It has been about creating an environment where girls can enjoy their rugby, support one another and feel that they belong in the game.
That is what made this season significant. This group has helped build a positive and supportive foundation, while also showing younger players that there is a pathway ahead of them. It has also created a welcoming environment for any new girls looking to get involved next season.
Presentation night also gave the club the chance to recognise four players for their contribution:
Forward of the Year – Taylor Moody for her commitment, physicality and presence in the team.
Back of the Year – Alana Simpson for her confidence, attacking quality and ability to make things happen.
Coaches’ Player – Darcy Smith for her attitude, reliability and the standards she set.
Players’ Player – Alana Simpson for the respect she earned from her teammates across the season.
Thank you to all of the girls, parents, coaches, helpers and volunteers at both Bishop Auckland and Durham City, with special thanks to Cass, Alice and Mark for their support. This felt like more than a presentation night — it felt like the start of something worth building.
