A fantastic atmosphere filled Bishop Auckland RUFC yesterday afternoon as players, parents, coaches, and enthusiastic supporters gathered to celebrate another successful rugby season for the U11's team. The event was a fitting tribute to the hard work, dedication, and camaraderie that defined the year.
The club's pivotal role in the team's achievements was highlighted early on, with heartfelt thanks extended to Peter Gallone, Gareth John, the dedicated members of the rugby committee, and the wider club for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the season. Their commitment to providing the necessary resources and fostering a positive environment has been instrumental in the team's progress both on and off the field.
A particularly poignant moment saw the club community bid farewell to two cherished supporters, Dan and Donna Lewis, who are embarking on an exciting new venture. The incredible turnout for the afterparty was a clear demonstration of the high regard in which they are held, and the club wishes them all the very best in their new wine bar in Durham.
The true focus of the afternoon, however, was the celebration of the players themselves. Their dedication, determination, and infectious passion for rugby were rightly applauded. Throughout the season, they demonstrated remarkable growth, learning the vital lessons of teamwork, resilience, and inspiring everyone with their courageous spirit and excellent sportsmanship. The coaching team expressed their immense pride and honour in working with such an exceptional group of young athletes.
The tireless efforts of the team's dedicated support staff were also acknowledged. Team managers Catherine Franklin and Stephanie White were commended for their crucial behind-the-scenes work in ensuring the smooth running of practices and matches. Team photographer Kirsty Worsley was thanked for her dedication in capturing the unforgettable moments that will provide lasting memories. The expertise and commitment of coaches Graeme Coleman and Taff Evans were also recognised as key drivers in the team's development and success.
A special tribute was then paid to the Under 11 girls who are set to embark on an exciting new chapter, forming their own Under 12s team next season. Their journey from their earliest involvement with the club and their significant contribution to the growth of girls' rugby within the age grade were celebrated, with heartfelt best wishes extended for their future endeavors.
The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the end-of-season awards, recognizing outstanding individual contributions to the team's success:
The Best Newcomer Award, for a player who embraced rugby with remarkable aptitude and determination in their debut season, was deservedly awarded to Harley Stoddart for their impressive aggression, combative style, and unwavering never-give-up attitude.
The Most Improved Player award went to Jack Dodds, acknowledged for his significant growth in skills, particularly ball handling, alongside his increased confidence and emerging leadership qualities throughout the season.
The Coaches' Player award, recognising the player who best embodied the team's values of skill, sportsmanship, and leadership, was presented to Harry Colman for his consistent positive attitude, exceptional skill, and influential presence within the team.
The prestigious Players' Player award, voted for by his teammates and recognising trust, work ethic, and overall contribution, was awarded to Owen Smith, a true testament to his character and collaborative spirit.
The end-of-season presentation was a fitting and joyous celebration of a successful year for the under 11's team. It was a day to recognise the hard work, dedication, and spirit of the players, the unwavering support of their families, and the invaluable contributions of the entire club. With a strong foundation built on teamwork and passion, the team looks forward with enthusiasm to the challenges and triumphs of future seasons.
