BARUFC would like once again to thank all those who have contributed in any way to flood recovery at the club’s playing fields at West Mills. The response will allow the club to recover gradually and well, and to be better prepared for any similar future event. Without the help and support of the local community, of people from around the north east and of its members the way back would be much harder. Words are not enough to convey the heartfelt gratitude of the club’s board. All at BARUFC have been touched by the groundswell of warmth towards the club.
The club is also pleased to report that after years of preparation and grant seeking separate from the recent flood emergency, in the next short period new white fencing is to be introduced around Pitch 1 at West Mills. While the absence of most rugby action at the club recently as a result of the floods has been difficult, especially for junior and mini members who have been welcomed with open arms elsewhere for training by other local clubs and organisations (thanks to each and every one of them), the current post-flood recovery will provide an opportunity for the introduction of the fencing which will improve the playing and membership experience for all those visiting West Mills and also help to reduce vandalism to the pitch which has blighted the club for twenty years, including the recent encroachment by quad bike riders during the flood period.
So the next few weeks will be an important period of ongoing recovery, improvement and growth at BARUFC which will allow the club to stand tall in the face of recent challenges and to continue to be a Community Amateur Sports Club that Bishop Auckland and the local area can enjoy and be proud of.
