The Bishop Auckland U10’s and their loyal band of supporters made the short trip to Durham City in this clash between these two local rivals. This is a fixture both teams always relish and today certainly lived up to the usual high standards that these teams bring out of each other.
Durham City were a really good gauge of how our team is progressing and it was really pleasingly to see the progress the Bishop players have made over the last few weeks as we have had an intense period of games against quality opposition. These matches have really improved our team work, confidence, and every player’s technical ability.
Before kickoff we discussed the importance of the defensive line and working hard for each other in defence. It was really good to see our players talking and organising themselves in defence and working hard together to close down the space and tighten up their defensive structure. The tackling from everyone improves each week which is great to see.
In attack we supported very well. Our passing and offload game was good which created many attacking opportunities. Our handling skills are really progressing. The hard work in training is benefiting everyone.
Durham City were very strong in defence so it was good to see our team continually trying to play attacking rugby. Our rucking was generally good and hard fought but there’s room for improvement, so we will work on improving our intensity at the ruck in our next training session.
The endeavour, energy and enthusiasm of all our players was a real credit. This was a really good performance against good opposition played in good spirits. Well done the Bishop U10’s.
Players of the week:-
James Dye. James carried the ball hard into the Durham City lines time and again. He supported his teammates very well in attacking situations, and tackled well. James also scored a fine try to top off a great morning. Well played James.
Caleb Dixon. Caleb worked very hard in defence against the quick Durham players. He showed great speed in attacking situations and kept driving forwards. Caleb scored a great short range try to grab a deserved draw for his team in the first match. Great play Caleb.
Edward Bennett. Edward always brings great enthusiasm and effort to his team. He carried the ball very well into the Durham defence and consistently challenged their defensive line. He scored a magnificent try, dragging a couple of Durham players over the line with him! Well done Edward.
Harry Stevens. Harry’s confidence and determination grows each week. He had a great game in the Scrum Half role, and really made his team tick. He worked very hard to get to every breakdown and distributed the ball well to his teammates. Well played Harry.
Don’t forget indoor training at 6pm Wednesday and outdoor training next Sunday at 10am.
Thank you for your continued support.
U10 Team.
