Friday night lights!

Final Score: Bishop Auckland Vets 17 – 15 Houghton RFC

Bishop Auckland Vets kicked off their first away Friday Night Lights fixture with a performance full of character, grit and good old-fashioned rugby spirit.

Despite late drop-outs and arriving with only ten players, the lads fronted up, leaned on Houghton for a couple of bodies to even things up, and delivered an entertaining, competitive, and clean game under the lights.

Houghton set a great tone from the start, hosting superbly and bringing a strong crowd into the clubhouse. The atmosphere was everything vets rugby should be, friendly, competitive, and full of laughs.

On the pitch, Bishop showed real heart. Strong carries, determined defence, and a couple of trademark “experienced” moments kept things lively. A late burst down the edge sealed the final score for Bishop, and despite players nursing hamstrings, lungs, and pride, the effort across the whole group was outstanding.

While the result is always secondary at this level, the lads were rightly proud of the performance. For a team still coming together, with players returning after years away from the game, it was a brilliant showing and a reminder of what rugby is all about.

Huge thanks to Houghton for hosting and for the loan players that helped make the game possible. And massive credit to every Bishop lad who pulled on a shirt, travelled, and put their body on the line.

Next fixture details will follow soon as we continue to grow the Friday Night Lights vets squad.

Up the Bish!
