Today marked a huge milestone for our U16 Girls as Bishop Auckland and Durham City came together for their very first clustered fixture, and what an incredible debut it was.
Facing a strong Redcar side in a novice development match, the combined squad showed heart, resilience, and togetherness from the first whistle to the last. Despite the 5–37 scoreline, this game was a massive success in all the ways that truly matter for a developing team.
The girls wasted no time putting themselves forward, matching Redcar physically and throwing themselves into every carry, tackle and chase. Their early defensive shape was excellent, and they quickly found their rhythm working as a new united group.
Bishop/City got on the scoreboard with a fantastic try for Alana, pure determination, great support play, and brilliant team effort. It was a moment that lifted the entire squad and set the tone for how they fought right through to the end.
Every single player gave absolutely everything. Considering this was their first ever game together, with new combinations, new structures, new voices, and a whole new environment, their work rate and attitude were outstanding.
Strong carries, brave defence, improved communication, and moments of real attacking promise showed just how much potential this group has.
At full time, both teams came together with massive smiles, muddy shirts, and genuine respect. The girls represented both clubs brilliantly, committed, sporting, and full of pride.
The photos say it all: two groups of players, one rugby family, and a whole lot of progress in one afternoon.
Final Score
Bishop Auckland/Durham City 5 – 37 Redcar
This performance sets an incredible foundation for the rest of the season. With more game time, more confidence, and continued joint training, this team is only going to grow stronger.
Well done to everyone involved: players, coaches, and parents.
A brilliant first step on a brand-new journey.
