BARUFC U14’s v Consett

County Cup Defeat

After performing so well this season, and giving Consett a good game at their place in October, hopes were high that we would give this cup tie a really good go. But a combination of a lack of training, an off day on our behalf, and a much improved Consett team, culminated in a very one sided game.

This wasn't due to a lack of effort from most of the team. In fact we had a fair amount of possession and territory, but handling errors and control of the ball meant we came away from Consetts 22 on a number of occasions without any points. Let's make no bones about this, Consett are a really good side, but many of their tries came from our mistakes, break away tries (backs have pace to burn), and our lack of intensity and speed at the breakdown.

Heads were down at the end of the game, not because we had lost, but the performance was not a true reflection of how far we have come this season. The lads were disappointed as they know they were better than the scoreline. They say you learn more in defeat, we will take a lot from this game and come back stronger for it.

Player of the match was voted for by our captain, Oliver John, for putting his body on the line with some brave tackling and avoiding being sent off by his dad this time!

Heads up and we move on!
