Hard-Fought Contest Highlights Need for Persistence

The U13’s Bishop squad faced a challenging fixture this past Sunday, suffering a defeat against a well-drilled Westoe opposition. While the scoreboard did not reflect the potential of our players, the match served as a stark reminder of the fine margins in high-level rugby and the crucial need for sustained focus from the first whistle to the last.

The first half was defined by a series of costly turnovers and defensive lapses. Westoe capitalised on moments where our positioning slipped, creating space wide out and quickly converting pressure into points. Although flashes of our attacking potential were visible the continuity was lacking. Promising phases broke down due to unnecessary penalties or handling errors under pressure.

The team talk at half-time clearly resonated, as the squad returned with noticeably improved energy and intensity in the final minutes of the match. The defence tightened significantly, and the forwards began to assert dominance, providing a much-needed platform. We saw a period of sustained pressure inside the opposing side, culminating in a well-worked try towards the end of the match.

This result, though disappointing, provides essential learning points: maintaining strong positioning and sustaining high energy throughout. This team has the talent and the capability to dominate on the field and we look forward to seeing those moments of glory shine through over the coming weeks.
