Bishop Auckland U13s 4–3 Wallsend U13s
Bishop Auckland U13s welcomed Wallsend to West Mills and produced an excellent team performance to secure a closely contested 4–3 victory.
Played across three 15-minute periods, the match was end-to-end and fiercely competitive, but always played with tremendous spirit and mutual respect.
Wallsend were a big, direct and physical side. They carried strongly, competed aggressively at the breakdown and gave Bishop a serious examination throughout.
Bishop’s attacking rugby was the outstanding feature of the performance. The boys found space, ran excellent wide lines and repeatedly challenged the Wallsend defence. Leon crossed twice, with Harry and Sam also scoring to complete Bishop’s four tries.
Morgan at scrum-half and Harry at outside-half organised the team well, while Sam was exceptional when attacking from deep at fullback. His willingness to run, find space and take the game to Wallsend galvanised both his own performance and the team around him.
Ewan, Elijah and Jacob produced several huge carries, while Owen and Cameron demonstrated real bravery with some excellent tackling. Captain Heath handled the responsibility of leading the team extremely well, Charlie worked hard while covering the unfamiliar position of wing, and Marcus continued to show encouraging progress.
This was a strong performance, but it was not the finished product. Bishop’s defence was often scrambling rather than organised, communication was clear when it came but was not consistent enough, and support around the ball appeared in flashes rather than becoming a habit. The set pieces provided a good platform, although there is still plenty of room for improvement.
The next stage is developing greater structure, improving fitness and helping every player understand and trust their role. Most importantly, the boys must begin to believe in what they are capable of producing together.
Our message has been simple:
SPACE. VOICE. FORWARD.
Thirteen players. One picture.
When Bishop found space, used their voices and attacked forward with purpose, they were extremely difficult to stop. The challenge now is to produce that picture more consistently, knowing where to start, what to say and where to move next.
The boys played for each other, represented the badge brilliantly and showed exactly why there is so much potential within this team.
Player of the Match: Sam
A special thank-you must also go to our team sponsors, Admire Fitness and The Loft Pilates + Wellness Studio, and particularly Adam, Chloe and their teams.
Over the past six weeks, their incredible support has helped provide dedicated conditioning for the boys, focused on strength, movement, fitness and injury prevention. This has been genuine, practical investment in our young players, not simply having business names associated with the team.
Admire Fitness, based at Admire Club in Bishop Auckland, provides personal training alongside strength and fitness coaching for people wanting structured, professional support with their development.
The Loft is a Pilates and wellness studio based at Admire Club, with a focus on Pilates, movement, breath and somatics.
We are incredibly grateful for the time, knowledge and encouragement both businesses have invested in the boys. Please support the brilliant local businesses that actively support our young players and grassroots rugby.
Finally, thank you to Wallsend for a tough, respectful contest and to everyone who supported both teams at West Mills.
