Today marked the first of the U13’s Waterfall Tournament matches and the Bishop boys were welcomed to play Seaton Carew at Hornby Park.
Bishop kicked off the match with a strong headwind which Seaton played to their advantage throughout the first half and managed to score a good try minutes into the game. The score was soon to be matched with a powerful run from Leo shortly after receiving the ball.
Using their strong front line, Seaton were able to put four tries past Bishop. But their run of tries was stopped by Daniel who found a gap in Seaton's defence, enabling him to race from the half way line and get the try.
The second half saw a new focus in Bishop's tactics, with the wind behind them, the boys showed more confidence in their tackles against Seaton’s forwards. There were a few injuries but this proved the determination of the team to win back some points. And they did…..with four consecutive tries from Leo, David, Matty and Blake who were all supported with great passes to break through Seaton’s defence.
Next came a series of scrums which Bishop showed skill in executing, but Seaton managed to score three more tries towards the end of the second half. One last try was landed by Isaac who saw an opportunity to jump on the ball as it landed over the try line. A significant result for Isaac as it was his first try of the season with well deserved praise from his team mates!
Despite the score, Bishop held their heads high throughout the game, delivered the best defending of the season so far and executed the scrums outstandingly. More of the same lads!!!
Man of the match went to Oliver for his true determination in his tackling, even after sustaining a couple of injuries!! Well done Oliver.
