BARUFC U12’s v Darlington

BARUFC U12’s v Darlington

Jacqui Teasdale6 Oct - 17:24

Tough Day!

Sunday’s trip to Darlington was a tough day for our U12 boys. Two 20-minute games that asked real questions of our defence and effort. Darlington were well-organised, aggressive, and full of running, and they deserved their tries. We didn’t manage to get on the scoreboard, but every challenge is a chance to learn, and this one gave us plenty to build from.

The biggest takeaway was that rugby rewards effort, communication, and bravery, three areas we simply didn’t show enough of on the day. We stood off in defence and relied too much on “handsy” tackles instead of getting low and strong. When we hesitated, Darlington took their chances.

There were bright moments: a few slick slip passes created big yards when we trusted our skills, and when the ball went wide, we showed glimpses of what we can be. Evan Richardson, Lucas Younghusband and Harry Colman both led by example, working tirelessly and showing real character throughout. Their attitude is exactly what we’ll be building on this week.

On Thursday we’ll refocus on the things that define Bishop rugby - line speed, low tackles, loud communication, and relentless effort. The lads will bounce back; they always do. Every game is a step on their journey, and days like this are how teams grow tougher and closer.

A huge thank-you to all the parents and families who travelled, cheered, and supported the boys. Your encouragement and patience make all the difference, especially on the hard days.

If you know a Year 7 boy who wants to learn the game, make new mates, and be part of something that’s building fast, now’s the perfect time to join us.

We train Thursdays 6–7 pm at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club — all newcomers welcome for free taster sessions.
