After a couple of tough weeks, Bishop Auckland U12s produced a performance today that reminded everyone — especially themselves — what this group is capable of.
Facing a huge Billingham side, made up of four of the biggest and strongest U12 players ever seen in the Northern hemisphere, the Bishop lads could easily have gone into their shells. Instead, they stood up, worked hard, and played with real heart from start to finish.
Sam captained the side superbly, leading by example and helping organise the defence alongside Ewan, keeping the team connected and talking throughout.
There were standout moments across the pitch. Harry crossed the line twice, finishing with confidence and composure. Alfie, Eli and Jacob ran strong and hard, taking the game to a much bigger opposition. James, Ed, Lucas and Leon put in some huge tackles, never shying away from the physical challenge. Every player played their part, and the effort levels were outstanding.
This group has taken a few knocks recently, and self-belief has been tested. But performances like this are how belief is rebuilt, not through results alone, but through bravery, teamwork, and refusing to back down.
That was echoed afterwards by Billingham coach Kris, who commented that it was some of the best rugby they’ve played against this year — high praise from a very strong opponent.
What made the day even better was seeing the lads afterwards — smiling, relaxed, and staying right to the end celebrating together in the clubhouse. That connection within the group is growing, and it shows.
A huge thank you to all the parents and supporters for their encouragement, the coaches for their continued belief and support, and the referee for managing the game in great spirit.
I couldn’t be prouder of this group today. They stood tall, played brave rugby, and showed real character against a very tough side.
This is a team moving in the right direction.
