BARUFC U12 Girls v Guisborough/Darlington

Jacqui Teasdale3 Mar - 16:54

Braves on Fire!!

Guisborough made the long trip to West Mills with 6 players and clustered with Darlington to make two teams of 11.

We made the pitch slightly larger to give the girls more space, and to get them ready for the big jump up to 14’s next season.

We've been working on our ruck in training, and this really paid off around the breakdown where we rarely lost our own ball. Still a few standing watching rather than counter-rucking, but once again Chimmy, Martha, Amelia and Isla excelled in turning over ball here.

We were strong throughout the game, our go forward was excellent, and there was plenty of effort in defence. Bayley and Sienna did lots of hard work to drive us up the pitch and create scoring opportunities for others.

Its was pretty much one way traffic in the first half, but Guisborough got stronger in the second.

The highlight of the game for me wasn't any of the tries scored, but the effort Chimmy and Isla put in to run half a pitch to prevent one of the Guisborough girls from scoring a certain try, a great tackle just before the line.

Brave of the Match could have gone to one of 6 players, but Autumn and Amelia pipped it for their bravery and effort.

Autumn is still new to the game, but is learning fast. You can coach technique and skill, but what you can’t coach is bravery - Autumn has this in abundance!
Amelia was everywhere, and can do everything. She's working on her number 9 role, but was tackling, rucking, passing and scoring - and she has a lovely sidestep to boot!

It was a great effort by all and we continue to grow as a team. Well done girls!!
