Our Under 13's made the early morning trip to Sunderland to play our first match as part of the juniors age grade, after what had felt like a long summer of preparation. Nerves were on show, if only from the coaches, the desire to see if the boys had taken onboard all of the changes and challeneges that await a new age group.

We came up against a formidable side in Sunderland, well coached and well drilled, they were a credit on their defensive lines, we struggled to break this defensive line on numerous occasions throughout the first half and some unlucky bounces of the ball meant that that we went into the break 4 tries to 1 down.

The second half kicked off and we came out a different team, we kept hold of the ball, we drove froward and gave minimal space away, it was great to see the forwards start to come into their own and dominate within the ruck, scrum and maul positions. The backs found space to play and throw the ball around, and discovered that inter passing in space meant that we could score tries as a team, with help and assistance from the forwards getting the ball and player over the line we secured a great draw with a 25-25 score.

A great result for the first match of the season, with some fantastic individual performances, which ultimately led to an amazing team performance.
