Lots to be positive about….13-7 win!

As always, the squad today were asked to set their stall out from the first whistle. To make sure they did the right thing collectively and as a team, and let Hartlepool know from the off that they were in for a hard game. As requested, the team imposed themselves straight away, playing some great rugby which really knocked the stuffing out of our opposition.

We were 4 tries up within the first 10 minutes, our go forward and support play was a joy to watch, and Hartlepool just didn't have an answer for it. We seemed to then take our foot off the gas in the quarters either side of half time, showing a little complacency after the initial blitz. We let Hartlepool back into the game, but we were still battling hard and equalling them in the score count.

We dominated possession for long periods, but due to over confidence reverted back to individual rugby rather than taking easier options to get the ball out wide and into space. The winning margin would have been much larger had we managed the game a little better, and took better options at key moments.

The lads were very honest in their assessment that although we won, it didn’t feel as good as last week when it was more of a team effort.

Let’s take the positives out of this game, we won in 3rd gear, there is so much potential in this team, and when it clicks it will really fires!

There were a few lovely team tries, most noticeably set up by strong runs by Olly, Eliott, Finley and Isaac. It’s a proud moment for me when a player is unselfish and looks to pass to someone in space to score, Ben’s try was a great example of this.

However, it was the 'Beast of Bish', the 'Bullet with the Mullet' that shone today! Olly was immense in all departments today, strong in attack and defence, and putting his body on the line! A real leader by example! Well done Olly on MOTM!

Well done team......together we’re getting stronger! Big test awaits next week away to Blaydon!
